Keep the following in mind when
planning your Web Site. 

Domain Name Registration
Decide on what you want your Domain Name to be, such as
"www.yourcompany.com".  Since names are on a "first come,
first serve" basis, you should have back-up names selected, in
case your first choice is already taken.

There is a Registration fee of up to $70 for two(2) years (and
then $35 a year thereafter) for each Domain Name Registration. 
 

The following is a list of the most common suffixes for domains:

com - commercial businesses
net - network organizations
edu - educational institutions
org - nonprofit organizations
gov - government agencies
mil - military

Web Presence Provider
Your Web Site needs to be stored on a server with a constant
connection to the Internet.  You, or your web site designer, need
to choose a host that has the capabilities to support your web site.
If your going to use eCommerce, for example, you need to make
sure that they have secure servers.  There are many other factors
like this that need to be considered when choosing a Web Site Host.
Make sure you understand what they can and cannot provide, and
that they are 100% compatible with the capabilities of your site.

Domain eMail
Most Web Presence Providers include eMail services along with the
hosting account.  This gives you the ability to make addresses such as
"sales@yourcompany.com", or "info@yourcompany.com".  Make a
list of the address you want, and insure your hosting plan provides
enough addresses.  Check and see if the Domain eMail will be actual
POP3 accounts, or just "eMail forwarding" to your current address.

Promotion & Maintenance
I can't say enough on this topic!  Make sure you plan on how you
are going to promote your web site, and keep the information current
and different.  Just because your on the 'Net, doesn't mean that people
will automatically find you!  And if your web site never changes,
customers will have little reason to return.  It's like reading an old
magazine.  Please! Please! Please! plan on how you will market your
site.
